Ant Example

In nature, creatures without higher thought processes are able to navigate and perform tasks in a three dimensional environment, and can even adapt to injury and changing terrain. They use a multitude of sensory inputs to analyze and respond to their environments. Applying this artificial life concept to robotics, people were able to create a robot that functioned in a similar manner. Every time the robot is turned on, it learns to walk for the first time utilizing feedback from sensors located throughout its body. In this way, it can navigate complex, changing environments and can even compensate for broken appendages.
